The mission of District 13 is to enhance the performance and extend the network of Clubs, thereby offering greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program by:

  • Focusing on the critical success factors as specified by the District educational goals and membership goals.
  • Insuring that each Club effectively fulfills its responsibilities to its members.

DISTRICT 13 TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL SPEECH AND EVALUATION CONTEST WINNERS

District 13 Toastmasters, a district within Toastmasters International, is pleased to announce the following winners of International Speech and Evaluation Contest. The contest was held this past Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Lakeview Spa and Golf Resort in Morgantown, West Virginia and was hosted by the Mountaineers Toastmaster Club. Eight individuals competed for the District 13 International Speech Contest and the Speech Evaluation Contest out of over 1,300 members spanning three of the largest territories - Western Pennsylvania, Northern West Virginia and Western Maryland.

Taking first place in the Evaluation Contest was Bernie Sullivan from the the PPG Club. Sullivan has been a member of Toastmasters for the past four years and won first place in the Division D Evaluation Contest three weeks ago. Second place was awarded to Larry Olek and third place was awarded to Bill Mueller. Olek is a member of Johnstown Toastmasters for the past four years and Mueller is a member of the North Hills and Achievers Toastmaster clubs for the past twelve years.

Taking first place in the International Speech Contest was Jeff Esper of the South Hills Toastmasters Club. Esper has been a member of Toastmasters for the past year and also won first place in the Division A International Speech Contest three weeks ago. Second place was awarded to Dan Gull and third place was awarded to Laura Vayansky. Gull is a member of Toastmasters in the Tower for the past year and a half. Vayansky is currently a member of PPG and Cranberry Toastmasters and has been a member of Toastmasters International for the past six years.

The winner of the International Speech Contest will go on to represent District 13 at the Region VI Conference and International Convention where they will go on to compete for the title of 2009’s World Champion of Public Speaking. The Region VI conference is scheduled for June 13 and June 14 in Cleveland, Ohio.

and Evaluation Contests

District 13 Toastmasters, a district within Toastmasters International, is pleased to announce the following winners of their International Speech and Evaluation Contest. The contest was held on Saturday, April 10th at the Cannonsburg Borough Building and was hosted by Division A Governor David Veights.

Taking first place in the International Speech Contest was Jeff Esper and first place in the Evaluation Contest was Marben Bland. Esper is a member of the Bettis Club and has been a member of Toastmasters for a year and a half. Bland is a member of the Pittsburgh Club and has been a Toastmaster within District 13 for five years. Second place in both contests was awarded to Matthew Tomsho of both the Ambassadors and McKeesport Toastmasters clubs. Tomsho has been a member of Toastmasters International for five and a half years.

The winners of these contests will go on to represent Division B at the District 13 International Speech and Evaluation Contest and potentially to the Region VI Conference and the International Speech Contest where they may compete for the title of 2009’s World Champion of Public Speaking. The District 13 Conference will be held on May 2, 2009 at the Lakeview Spa and Golf Resort in Morgantown, West Virginia.

District 13 of Toastmasters International spans three of the largest territories - Western Pennsylvania, Northern West Virginia and Western Maryland and encompasses 69 Toastmasters clubs with over 1,300 members. District 13 Toastmasters, a district within Toastmasters International, is pleased to announce the following winners of their Division D International Speech and Evaluation Contest. The contest was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2009 within the Speak Easy Toastmaster Club’s Union Switch and Signal building in Pittsburgh. The recent recipients of the Toastmasters International Appreciation Award sponsored the event hosted by Division D Governor Stephanie Scott

Taking first place in the International Speech Contest was Daniel Gull and first place in the Evaluation Contest was Bernard Sullivan. Mr. Gull is a member of the Toastmasters in the Tower Club and has been a member of Toastmasters for the past year and one half. Mr. Sullivan is a member of the PPG Club and has been a member of Toastmasters International for approximately four years.

Second place in both Contests was Laura Vayansky. Vayansky is currently a member of PPG and Cranberry Toastmasters and has been a member of Toastmasters International for the past six years.
